Annual Poppy Campaign

2021 Poppy Campaign Starts Friday 29 October 2021

The Royal Canadian Legion’s annual Poppy Campaign runs from the last Friday in October through Remembrance Day. Conducted by over 400 local Legion Branches, coast to coast, the campaign is the single largest source of funds for the Branches to support Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces and the RCMP and their families. Each local Branch uses volunteers to organize and run their campaigns with all funds collected staying, in trust, at that Branch. The Branch Executives are accountable for the strict control of the funds and spending goes through a multi-level approval process.

Poppy Donation to Holy Roller Preservation Project

On 17 Mar 2021, the Byron Springbank Legion donated $5,000.00 to the Holy Roller Preservation Project. The HOLY ROLLER tank sits as a memorial in Victoria Park, London, Ontario. This historic tank, landed in one of the first waves on D-Day with the 1st Hussars, helped liberate Europe and miraculously survived to the end of World War II. One of only two Canadian tanks to do so. Holy Roller was moved from Queens Park to Victoria Park in 1956.

Over the years the Holy Roller has deteriorated internally and requires extensive work for it to survive anther 60 years. For more information about the Project go to the website: holyrollermemorial.ca
